DEPUTATION OF GROCERS.
[PEK PRESS ASSOCIATION.!
Wellington, Last night,
A deputation from the Master Grocers' Association waited upon the Premier this afternoon in regard to certain legislation now before Parliament. They urged that the Limitation of Imprisonment for Debt Bill should not be made retrospective. They approved of the bill in other respects, believing it would do away with the credit system, butthoughtemployers, including the Government, should pay weekly. They agreed with the bill abolishing the trading stamp system, and urged that Chinese shops should be brought under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act; that if preference is to be given to unionists, no man should be employed who had not had experience in the trade, also that only men who understood the trade should be appointed to tho Conciliation Board.
The Premier replied that the bill would probably go in the direction of printing coupons at the Government printing office, redeemable by the post office at face value. The other questions, including Chinese shops, paying Government day laborers weekly, and omitting the retrospect features of the bill will be considered.
