THE TAUPO WRECK.

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Greymoutii, Last night. An official enquiry was heid on Saturday into the cause of the stranding of the Taupo on the 16th, before the S.M., Mr Hawkins, and Captains Bignell and Mollinson, assessors. After the evidence of Captain Brophy and the chief officer, Mr Berquist,' 1 the decision of the Court was given, that it Avas an accident due to the breaking of a windlass, and no blame attached to any one, nor any want of seamanship. The vessel Avas thoroughly efficiently moored. The compressor was not in working order, but it was shown that the usual practice was to rely mainly on the windlass. The Court was unable to say Avhat was tiie exact cause of the accident. It Avas quite inexplicable, and it could not form any opiuiou as to the cause of it.
