In consequence of the statements published about the rigorous treatment of youthful prisoners, the Government has obtained a report from their medical adviser, Prof. Anderson Stuart, who eaya the evidence on the whole is in favor of the present oyetem. There is certainly no immediate need for an alteration, and no suffioient reason to consider it injurious to the health or development of the prisoners. The Government propose to oarry out the suggestion of Prof. Stuert'e, that in order to set the matter at r<jet the weights of the prisoners be taken daring the next cix months.
