Me Eaknshaw, M.H.R. for the Peninsula, addressed his constituents at South Dunedin the other day, and on the conclusion of his speech Mr Warren moved a vote of confidence. In seconding the motion Mr Chetwin said that Mr Earushaw had been an honest and diligent representative of the Peninsula, and a consistent and conscientious supporter of the most abused, the mostmisiepreseuted, and the best Government that they had had in New Zealand for years. We are not going to quarrel with Mr Chetwin's opinion as to what constitutes the best government, but we must disagree with him in the assertion that the present Government is the most abused and most misrepresented of any of its predecessors. If Mr Chetwin can carry his recollection back to 1577, when the Grey Ministry succeeded the Atkinson Administration by force of falsehood and misrepresentation ; again to 1884, when the Stout-Vogel Government obtained power by much the same weapons; again to the elec ■ tion speeches of the members and supporters of the present Ministry, he will then see for himself that the baais on which Liberal politics are reared is lying. There is not any fear of contradiction when we say that the three so-called Liberal Governments have lied their way to office, and that the results of their administration have been valueless in respect of " the progress of the human race," and disastrous, financially, to tho colony.
