Taradale River Board.

[own cobbespondent.]

The Taradale River Board met at the Mechanics' Institute laat evening, Messrs Neagle (in the chair), Rymer, Drummond, and Hill being present. Correspondence was read from the Audit Department, advising th 6 Board to look closely to its revenue, to see that it was properly placed to the Board's credit. . .; From Messrs Sainsbury and Logan, stating that application had been made to them by Mr Murphy to remove a caveat lodged by them on behalf ef this Board in respect to land taken from him by the Board some years ago. The Board instructed the Chairman to place the matter in th» hands of the Board's solicitors, -with a view to obtaining a transfer of the land in question. The Chairman and. Mr Rymer reported that they had inspected the Board's reserves, and the condition of the riyer bed, as per instructions at last meeting, and had decided to clear willows from the river bed, which, if left, would eventually cause an obstruction, and to carry out protective works where required, at an estimated cost of £20, which would make the total expended on protective works during the winter about £40. These works were now being , carried out, and would soon be completed, when everything in connection with the river bank would be in a satisfactory condition.—The actions of those gentlemen were approved of by the Board. The Chairmau reported that the Maoris at Waiohikihad applied to him fora supply of willows, and after consulting with other members of the Board, he had agreed to supply them, if they (the Maoris) would pay the cost of cutting, but they declined to do bo, as they wished to cut them themselves. He had therefore refused them, as the Board had decided not to allow any willows to be cut only under ita own supervision.—Approved. The passing of a small account brought the meeting to a close.
