Waipawa.

[OWN COBBBBPONDHNT.3

A man named Thomas Robinson Poole was charged at Waipukurau before Mr W. Smith, J.P., on Thursday with being drunk in a public place. Hβ was convicted and discharged. On tho eamo dny, at "Waipawa, James Sadgrove was charged with a like offence, befoio Mr A. Inglis, and fined os, with 2e oosts, or in default 24 hours' in the lock-up. The following are the oases of apparent double voting or personation discovered at the recent scrutiny :—Four men appear to havo boeu personated at Heretaunga, one from Norsewood, and three from Danevirke; at Danevirke a Norsewood man was personated ; at Kutneroa an Onga Onga man ; at Waipawa a Danevirke man ; at Danevirke, a man from Ormondville, and one from Wanstead; at Waipukurau a man from Makotuku; from Wimbledon, at Ormondville, two Norsowood men; at Porangahau a man voted at both Wimbledon and Herbertville : and a Weber man at both, Wimbledon and Porangahau. There were. iifteen cases in all, which have been reported to the Government, and it is likely* that some of these silly people will hare a> lesion administered that ia sure to enre> them and is greatly needed, as the samo thing occurred three years ago. Besides the above a case has been reported to the Returning Offioer, ia which it was attempted by a prominent individual at Danevirke to poll a drunken, man iv second time under another; name, but. the watchfulness of a scrutineer prevented it.

It has since the scrunity been discovered! that the Onga Onga man never left Onga. Onga on the polling day, consequently the personation took place at Kamoroa; in the Waipawa case a man of the same name voted here, possibly under the impression that he was on the roll, whereas the ;one who voted at Ormondville was the proper person ; and in the case of the Webor man, it hae transpired that there are two men of the same name, each of which were equallyentitled to consider tho name their own, both having applied to be enrolled, but from the enquiries made at the time the Registrar could only hear of one. Most of the remaining dozen may possibly oa further enquiryturn out to be similar oases wherein there) are men of the same name, notably the instance in which a man appears to have voted both at Waipnkurau and Wimbledon, which, is almost an impossibility. The most suspicions cases are those where two men appear to have voted at both Norsewood and Ormondville.

Sir Robert Stout passed through here last nieht en route for Napier. The ladies committee have removed their unsold stock of goods to the. Library, aad, have instructed Mrs GrackUnd, the houeekodper, to accept any reasonable office fotany of them. ;
