It would have been a maffer for regret if a split in the New South WaL's Cabinet had occurred at tho piv.-tit moment, for Sir Henry Parkes could not well do without his
able and outspoken Treasurer. Our cablegrams to-day tell us the breach has been healed. Before he entered the politioal arena, Mr McMillan, who has been a prominent commercial man at different times iv Victoria and New South Wales, exercised an immense influence in tho latter colony. Ho was the chairman of an active chamber of commerce, was looked up to as one of the shining lights ot the Free Trade party, and was a large employer of labor. At the last election he served his party well. and when that party returned to "power against his own interests he took office. His career since has been that of a straightforward, honest, outspoken politician, and a rupture between Sir Henry Parkes and himself could only have resulted in crippling tho party.
