Messrs Cranby, Sidey, and Cohen wore re-elected to their seats in the Council today, there being no opposition.
During the month of August last rain fell in Napier ou six days, the total rainfall being a little under one inch. We are indebted to Mr E. Lyndon for this report. A cable message has been received to-day from Sydney by a local exporter stating that any produce shipped to Sydney the agents there would undertake to have landed.
In the caso of H. Powdrell v. Caroline Bulled, at the R.M. Court to-day, a claim for Os, damage done by defendant's cows to plaintifis property, judgment was given for os with costs 19s.
The body of the missing man Walton was found in the river at Woodvillo yesterday, with a leather bag tied round the neck, containing a nineteen pound stone, which must have stopped the progress of the body down the stream, as the bag was entangled with a log. Tho river has lowered six feet since the time of Walton's disappearance, and this enabled the body to be discovered. Deceased's watch stopped atthohourof four. Au inquest into the circumstances was held at Woodville last evening, when a verdict was returned that deceased was found in the river, but there was no evidence to show how he got there, and medical testimony certified to death by suffocation from drowning.
The schoolroom of St. Part's Church has been so nicely decorated, that it was scarcely recognisable this afternoon. Flags cover the walls, whilo .he stalls aro draped with art muslin. Tastefully arranged within tho stalls is work of every conceivable kind, varying from plain every day requirements to the most ornate. As our readers are awa->c the object tho ladies have in viow is to help the fund being raised for much needed alterations to the schoolroom. The stalls are placed right round the room, so as to leave the centre of the floor vacant The children's exhibits aro placed at tbe right hand of the stage, where the light shows the pictures to advantage. A separate room baa been ressrved for tho refreshment stall. The following ladies preside over tho stalls :—Mesdames McVay, J. W. Craig, Sidey, Begg, Renouf, Crerar, and J. Sidey, assisted by Misses Smith, Lindsay (3), Nicholson, Lang, White, M. Miller, Sidey, Bowman, Lamb, and Goulding. Each evening musical selections will be given.
