[OWN OOBKESPONBSSTT.]

Yesterday. Tho Hawke's Bay Grioket Club met last night at Jull's Hotel for the purpose of electing officers and other business. The prize bat for the best average scorer was awarded by general consent to'Mr Dove. Mr E H. Williams, the donor of the bat, kindly promised to repeat his present next year, Mr Spivey, being an expert in crioketing matters, was to be requested to give hie assistance with regard to the grounds. Captain Eussell was re-elected president and Mr Fitzßoy vice-president. Mr C. Loughnan was elected secretary and troasurer, Mr Tickuer having retired from those offices. For tho general committee Messrs Gore, C. Loughnan, Vickerman, Lowry, and H. Braithwaite -were elected;

ground committee, Messrs Gore, J3raithwaite, and Loughnan; match committee, Mr Gore With regard to this last committee it is hoped in the interests of the Club that its meetings -will be conducted with perfect unanimity ! It was decided to obtain a horse grass cutting machine by subscription amongst the members. A vote of thanks to the chairman and the retiring officers concluded the business.

There has been another rumpus with the Salvatiou Army here, and about a sack of flour was wasted. It is difficult to under-

stand the reason for the demonstration, unless it was to welcome the new " Captain." Whatever opiuioos may be held as to this sort of horse play, there can be no doubt that tho women should be left out of

it. One of tho aesailaats threw a paper bag of ilour at one of tho women, striking her full in the face. Two tradesmon have offered to come forward as a -witness of the fact if legal proceedings arise.
