ALLEGED CONSPIRACY. London, December 21. A summons has been issued- against a Mr Newton, a solicitor, charging him with being concerned in a conspiracy to defeat the ends of justice in connection with the West End scandal. JlriD OF COAL PORTERS' STRIKE. The strike of the coal porters has virtually ended, the blacklegs having been permanently engaged. There was a stock of a month's supply of coal. PARNELL AND THE IRISH QUESTION. Mr Parnell, speaking at Liverpool, said
the Irish rebellion was justified in the past. The Protestants had nothing to fear from the Catholics. SETTLEMENT OF STRIKES. The London Chamber of Commerce are appointing a permanent committee to adjudicate iustrikes. Ex-Lord Mayor Whitehead Cardinal Maunirn.', and Lord Mayor Isaac* are to be members of tne committee. VICTORIAN BUTTER. Victorian butter would command higher prices if packed in Pond's casks and frozen promptly. BRAZILIAN CONSTITUTION. The commission to whom has been assigned the task of drafting the Brazilian Constitution, will recommend religious toleration and decreeing civil marriages. A PROPOSAL FROM STANLEY. London, December 22.
Stanley urges that railway communication between, Mombasa (which is under British control) and Victoria Nyanza would open up an important market for European products. FREE TRADE V. PROTECTION. A census of the American woollen manufacturers has been taken on the question of the admission of wool free. The result was 520 manufacturers favored the free admission, while 200 voted against the proposal. SALE OF LORD FALMOUTH'S STUD. Lord Falmouth's stud has been disposed of, and realised £33,000.
