ENFORCING THE COMPULSORY CLAUSES.

Tho cases—which have been so long pending—brought by the Nupier School Committee aguinst parents for not sending their children to school, were called on at tho R.M. Court this morning. The Com-

mittee were represented by Mr Dick. Mary Ann Jack>on was charged that she neglected to send her son Thomas to fohool, he being between tho ago of seven and thirteen. The defendant, who appeared, produced a oortifiento to the Court that her son was born in 1574, and wus, therefore, over school ago. Mr Dick said they could not prove otherwise).

The R.M. said, such being the case, ho would dismiss tho information.

Mr Dick said it had been suggested by some people that it scorned strange the School Committee should enforce tho compulsory clauses of the Act, when, it appeared, they wero rather pressed for room. The Committee, had, however, engaged the Methodist Sunday schoolroom, close to the inf.uit department, so there was abundance of room now. It showed the enterprise of the Committee, and their determination that the children should be educated, as provided by the State. Under the Act His Worship would see that he could not inflict, a iine, but that ho might order tho defendant to send her i-on to school.

The dofendatit stated that her son had been to school, but not the last three months. The R.M. made the order applied for.
