Stajuierinq (says a London paper) has hitherto been supposed to bo purely a nervous delect. Somo experiences recently acquired by the surgeons connected .with tho Ear Hospital, Soho-scjuare, tend to call this view inoro or less in question. In carrying- out certain operations to cure children ot deafness, it was found that in .several (successful cases tho operators hud also simultaneously cured the patiuuts of stammering. This fact attracted special attention and s.-udy, and tho outcome haa been tho firm ton vie :ion that stammering, in ths majority of casi'H, does not proceed from a nervous malady, but from somo obstruction or defect connected with the organs of hearing. In a number of cases selected purport Jy from the public schools this fact has, i. is stt?d, been aliiudtmtiy demonstrated.
