The following communication has just been received by Messrs Speight & Co. (per favor of G. R. West, Esq.) as to the Superior quality of their ales : — ROBB, MOORE & CO., Steamship Ftm.is_._-S, Ship and Stoke Merchants, 72 and 71, Broomiluw, Glasgow, .Nov. 0, 1888. G. R. Wkst, Esq., 135 Euston Road, London. D.AX Sin,— Being intimate with one of tho Principal Supervisors of »' xciso here, 1 sent him a few dozen of Messrs Spmght & Co.'s Dunedin Beer, with tho object of getting an opinion of the Excise Chemist on it, and I am glad to say he has pronounced it one of tbo Finest Beers he ever analysed, it having tho high specific gravity of 10-80 deg., tho greatest amount of spirit, and the best quality of acid he ever came across. When I tell you that every shipment of Beer going out of the Clyde must be sampled by tho Excise Officers, aud then analysed by their Chemists, I consider this opinion is better than anything else I could say on it. At present tho Beer is too flat to send to anyone but an expert in the trade, but as noon as it comes into condition I will havo it distributed. Years, very truly, (Signed) ROBB, MOORE, & CO, Per H. One hundred and twenty Barrels of Beer were submitted quite indiscriminately from all parts of the world, and hud to bo tested against ono another at one and the same time. Your Jurors have had ole yon Meetings, extending over a period of ono Month, from _oth November to 20lh December, and havo deliberated ou an average of three hours each sitting, so that amplo time and care waa duly taken to form a correct and acceptable judgment.
