It has been decided that Lord Onslow is to ! come overland from Auckland, and will be in Napier on Tuesday next. He will arrive here late in the afternoon of that day, and as ho will naturally bo tired after the fatigues of a long onach journey, it will ho more respectful and attentive if he be permitted to have an undisturbed evening's rest, But there is a precedent for showing him respect and giving him a kindly welcimeon his roail to Napier in the reception accorded Lord Shafteebury. It will bo remembered that when that young nobleman came through by the Hot Lakes, some of the residents here, animated by their feelings of admiration for hie grandfather, the great philanthropist, engaged a carriage and four groys to meet him at Petane and bring him into town. We would suggest a somewhat similar proceeding in respect of Lord and Lady Onslow and suite. The change from the coach that brought them from Taupo would at lenst be agreeable to them if for no other reason than that patent springs are easier than leather. But little time need be lost in effecting this exchange, and the occasion might be mad*-, uso of by His Worship the Mayor, and the representatives of the district, to present His Lordship with an address of welcome. It must not be forgotten that until he is sworn iv Lord Onslow is only a private individual, but we cannot lose sight of tho fact that for the next five years ho will be the representative in this colony of Her Majesty the Queen.
