The attendance was numorouH. D. i)onend was captain for Te Auto and Takiu for Waipawa. A large number of shootists went out on Friday to the west of Hampdeu, Whakurara, North Ruataniwha, Blackburn, und Wanstead, and several lots of duoke, pin eons, pukukos, and hares were the result. I understand that hares are plentiful between Wanstead and Wallingford.

Many persons have expressed their surprise to see tho anonymous and ulanderous attack on mo in Saturday TkmiGraph, and everyone knows the writer, who, under cover of an attack on me, got his peculiar views published. The only answer necessary is tho following copy of a document sent to me, the original of which I also enclose : —"Sir, —The report of the cricket meeting which appeared in Thursday's Tjilkgrahi is a correct and impartial ono of tho proceedings. (Signed) H. Kobinson, E. Bibby, junr., W. Wiseman, H. M. Kathbone (captain), W. H. J. Bennett (secretary), and Ronald Molntosh (chairman). The rain on Sunday caused a subsidence at ono side of tho now tank in the main street, and I fear much additional work will be required before it will be perfeot. A man named Joseph Roberts (brother to Jonathan Roberts, the prihon breaker), wanted on a charge of stealing a pocket book with ten notes in it from a whare, was arrested at Gleucoe station, Whareama, on the coast, on Saturday, and will possibly appear before the local Bench here to-day (Tuesday). The circumstances of the case are said to be more interesting than usual, but it would not be advisable to say anything about them at present. The Chairman of the Danevirke Road Board has received information that the application for a loan of £3000 for tho erection of the proposed bridge over tho Manawatu has been granted. . . ■, <■

A gentleman called on me yesterday who Lad read some remarks of mine in your paper about a week ago, relative to the desirability of a water supply for Waipawa. Taking advantage of the excursion, rates, ho came, he saw, and is confident he can conquer After spending the day in examining tho locality, ho informed me that he wifl shortly lay a proposal before the Town Board for supplying the town with 30,000 gallons of water daily at a very small coat, More than this I may not say at present. The Orchestral Society's Concert was held last night. Tho orchestra consisted of Miss Bibby, piano ; Messrs F. 08. Loughnun, T. Wildman, and A. Herman, first violins; Matier, J. Williams, VVithrow, W. Jones, and Le Cocq, seoond violins; P. Shnnly, cello; C. H. ChisMoli, contra bass; 0. Shoperd, trombone; J. Wiseman, cornet; M. Pritohard, iluto; F. Brunette, clarionet; W. Wildimui, leader; F. 08. Loughnan, conductor. The performers showed a distinct improvement, and their best piece was an " Operatic Medley " (Ripley), and " The, Lyro of Gold," in '• lolanthe " they got a, little out of tune, Tho other pieces werp " Ocean Pearls," "Beggar Student," anfl Light Foot." Tho great feature of the evening was Mr. A. Herman's violin solos j "11 Trovatore" being , encored, he gave " Tho Dying Poet." Later ho gave " The Bohemian Girl," and was succoisful in .securing public approval when ho gave " Homo Sweet Homo" with variations. Hβ is a master in his craft. Miss Boyle n&ng " Cariesims," and " Pierrot," being encored in each, Mrs W. H. Bennett accompanying. Miss Large sang " Aye Marie" and "Tears," and received an encore for each, when she sang "Bo Wine in Time " and " Charlie is My Darling." Mr. JET. Imi%o made an excellent uouompaniodt. E. ju!l sang "Wicket Gate" and being recalled sang " Sailing over tho Sea." Mr. Inglcton sang " Heart of My Heart," and tho National Anthem by the orchestra brouirht an excellent concert to a oloho at UK3O.
