I Taking advantage of the holiday., and the I presence of tho vessels, in tho C j choir of St. Augustine's Chuvch, together I -with a niunbev of friends, numbering about I thirty, -arent for an outing yesterday, Mr WiUoooks, local manager of the N.Z. Shipping Company having Hndly invited them to spend; the holiday on board the Mataura. The party was conveyed to their destination ia the ship's boats, and on getting , aboard the Mataura they were extended & most cordial welcome. Mr Roberts, chief officer of the vessel, showed the company all over tbe ship, and he was indefatigablein his efforts to make tbe visitors' spend an enjoyable outing. After all had* , partaken of a sumptuous repaet, a cruise round the harbor wae made, boats from theMatanra, Arabella, and Ashleigh Brook accommodating; tho party, who aftem-awfe-visited tho latter vessel, whore they werei very kindly received. The ladies here marfo themselves comfortable at the pianoy andi treated tbe company to a vocal and instrumental concert, which was not only eDjojrablo to those comprising the party, but also to the officers and men of the vessel. A spiritod game of snowballing was indntcred in on tho Ashkigh Brook. Returning again to the Mataura, boe.rty oheors were given for the officers and crews of the Mataura and Ashleigh Brook, and Mr Willoooks for tbe kind manner in which the* visitors had been entertained.
