London, December 17. The Government are doing their utmost to ascertain whct.'ior tVr- i< any truth m the statement that Eroin Bey and Stanley have been captured by tho Mahdi s adherents. If they aro convinced that Osman Digna's letter is not merely a falso boast, they propose to ascertain whether there is any hope of effecting their release by negotiation. W. O'BRIEN. Mr W. O'Brien, editor of the United Ireland, who was arrested by order of the Commission for publishing an insulting article in hie paper, will bo tried when the Commission resumes its sittings m January. TRUSTEES BILL. Tho Trustees Bill was only postponed in consequence of tho opposition of the Irish members uud thoso who supported tho colonies on the subject to its immediate disposal.
