(Eeceived April 26, 1.50 a.m.) Losdox, April 25. In the House of Commons Mr Justin M'Carthy, M.P. for Londonderry, moved a resolution condemning the increase of sentences recently imposed by the Appeal Court on Irish subjects. Sir TV. Vernon Harcourt, speaking , on the question, said that the machinery of the Appeal Court /1 was simply an engine of brntal and ferocious operation, and it was useless for , die Government to assurao ignorance of what was taking , place in connection with affairrf in Ireland. Mr G. J. Balfour, Secretary for Ireland, denied that there had been any interference by the Executive Council _with his administration. Mr Gladstone said the Government were responsible for the introduction of the foul and odious inequality in the enforcement of law in Ireland, for which there was no precedent, and he asserted that the Appeal Court had been cruelly and wantonly used against those in custody. The motion wae negatived.
