CORRESPONDENCE.
|A AVONDERFUL HELMSMAN
[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] yiv, _An effusion appeared in your Monday's issue, written (or caused to have been written) by Capt. Anderson, of the s.s. Maori, in Avliieh the following sentence is used :—"But did your own (meaning your OAvn corespondent at Wairoa) knoAV the steaming capabilities, sea-going qualities, and nautical experience tho. man possessed who steered the Maori out over the bar,_ he Avould never have predicted her coming ashore, or if on board going ashore." I think it just possiblo, Mr Editor, that most men wlio are, or over have been, in the AVairoa trade Avould understand the pilot's signals afc that i.laoe, but I am quite sure, no one (nautical or otherwise) ever heard of a man possessing steaming capabilities and sea-goitig qualities. No doubt such a specimen of humanity exists on board tho Maori, as Capt. Anderson (whose veracity cannot be doubted) says so, and 1 am sure many of your readers (Avith or Avithout nautical experience) Avould be glad to learn who that Avouderf ul helmsman is.—l am, kc, Bad Bar.
