Annual Meeting.

The annual meeting of the HaAvke's Bay Jockey Club was held at the offices of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society, Tenny-son-street, this forenoon, Mr R, AVollavqocl presiding. There Avas a large attendance of members. ANNUAL REPORT.

The annual report, tip to 31st March, was read as follows :—• . " Your committee have the pleasure to report that the transactions of the Club for the past year have been, with regard to both racing and finances, eminently successful. The club now numbers 128 paying members, being an increase of 49 over last year j aud your committee have sanguine expectations that the popularity of the institution' Avill be shqAvn by a considerable accession of members during the ensuing

season, • 'From the statement of accounts herewith, it willb& seen that the total receipts for the tAvolve mouths have- been £4504 12s as against £3009 10s 2d last year; and the amount paid aAvay in stakes £2720 15s, as against £1925 ss. " Improvements, including the hcav stand, have cost £429 18s Pd, Avhich, together Avith £200 on fixed deposit, £215 3s od to credit at the Bank of Ncav Zealand, £77 duo from the Government for railway gate receipts at tlje late autum meeting, and £112 of other debts OAviug to the club, show, after deducting the balance £59 4s Gd brought from the preAious year a surplus for tho tAvelve months of £974 17s Sd. "With this satisfactory result, Aye beg to call the attention of the incoming committee to the large revenue (£1453) that has been derived from OAvners of horses, aud recommend that for tho future, in framing programmes OAvners be more liberally dealt with in the matter of nominations ko. AA 7 e also consider that the time has uoav arrived when we are in a position to abolish that objectionable tax to OAvners, the qualification fee for non-members. "The annual report for 18S2 showed a loss on the cost of the maintenance of the training track of £13 17s Gd, and your then committee stated their confidence that, by v }.,aintaining the ground in thoroughly good order, the account would soon shoAV a balance on tho right side. L "Your committee have to report the increasing popularity of the totalisator, the receipts from this source having been £842 2s sd, against £370 18s the previous year. "TheneAV stand, although not realising the expectations of its projectors in the amount taken for admissions, has given a very satisfactory return, the large revenue derived. from the bar and luncheon room having Avell repaid the outlay. "Your committee have to thank Mr Bishop for his courtesy and trouble in ;nOAdug' the sheep off the training track bver'y evening,'' and' for 'his assistance in keeping tile in good order by the judicious working of his sheep. " '' Your committee must congratulate Mr Evott ou his efficient adjustment of the weights during the past season, the main success of the several meetings having been dependent on his efforts. "Your committee also beg, again, to tender their thanks to Mr Richardson for gratuitously, auditing the accounts of tho club. "F. D. Luckie, " Secretary." On the motion of Mr AVinler, seconded by- Mr Danvers, the report was adopted, also the Ualanccrshect. MISCELLANEOUS, The following were appointed as tho committee for the current year:—Messrs C. C. Murray, C. B. AVintcr, J. N\ AVilhams, J. Lvon, AA r . Douglas, AY. Shrimpton, R. AVellwood, T. Bishop, and Allan McLean. A Captain Russell Avas re-appomtcd president, Mr W. Ulick Burke treasurer, and Mr J. E. G. Richardson, auditor. It Avas resolved to obtain pedegrco books of NeAV Zealand and Australian horses for the use of the club.
