AUCKLAND.
This day. At the usual meeting of the AVaste Lands Board yesterday a letter Avas read from Messrs Douglas, Courtney, and Burslem applying for a prospecting license entitling them to search for diamonds oa-ci- a district embracing the greater portion of the county of Raglan. The Board decided to offer no objection, subject to the approval of the Governor, provided the right given to the applicants be not an exclusive one. The returned Parihaka natives gave a performance of hnl-as, fencing, songs, and hymns of Te AVhiti in the Theatre Royal hist night. Te Aroha, the chief, attempted to address the audience about Parihaka affairs, but there being no interpreter the band struck up and suprised him. There Avas a A-ery fair house. The uoav volunteer regulations have not been received AA-ith much favor in tho Waikato. Capt. Runciman, of the Cambridge troop, has scut iv the resignation of the corps to the officer commanding the district. The Te Awamutu troop haA'e decided to remain on as volunteers Avith the express intention that steps be taken to obtain a modification of the ucav regulations.
