SYDNEY.
December 12,
Telegrams are to hand from Newcastle to-night reporting that a serious fire has broken out in the centre of that city. Tbe conflagration has assumed large dimensions, and is still raging. At 10 o'clock five shops were in flames, and all efforts to extinguish them had proved futile, and it is feared that the large block of buildings of which they formed part will be consumed.
