At the inquest on the body of the lad Marlin, an open verdict of found drowned was returned.

The Zealandia accomplished the trip to San Francisco in 18 days hours steaming time. This is by far the best recorded passage. Her mails were despatched on the day of her arrival at San Francisco, October 28th, and reached New York in five days. Had they been fortunate in catching a fact Atlantic steamer they might have arrived in England on tbe 32 day from Auckland.
