An election of a member of the Legislative Assembly for Illawarra took place to-day, and resulted in the return of Mr Stewart by a large majority. The Hon. James Watson, Colonial Treasurer, and Dr. Renwick, who were recently defeated at tbe election for the Young and East Sydney constituencies respectively, were again rejected. December 11. Intelligence has been received here that the crew of a vessel, sixteen [in all, have been killed and eateu by the natives ot New Guinea. A life-buoy with tbe name Tavione on it was found near the scene of the massacre, but the vessel's name is uncertain, as no trace ot her was left.
