AUCKLAND.
December 6
The Bank of New Zealand shipped eight boxes of specie by the mail steamer, valued at £38,223.
On Monday some land obstruction cases were expected to come off at the Whangarei Police Court, but the Maoris did not appear. Warrants were issued for the apprehension of the parties, aud two policemen proceeded to the settlement, but finding thirty natives assembled, who threatened violence if any arrests were made, the constables considered it better to wait their opportunity, and not cause a fracas by forcibly arresting any of the delinquents. Subsequently Tamarere Kukapa promised the R.M. that the men should surrender to their summons on his return from Kaipara in a day or two, so preventing any trouble arising from a forcible arrest. Mr Milner Stephen, spiritualist, arrived from Sydney yesterday by the Australia. He intends lecturing here on his alleged healing powers.
