November 30

The Mayoralty election resulted in the return of Mr J. Kingsland, the numbers being Kingsland, 249, and J. L. M'Donald, 213. There was considerable excitement towards the close. Only about two-thirds of the electors voted.

J. M. Gilchrist, constable, has been committed for trial on the cbarge of stabbing Maurice Gorman. The prisoner holds to his statement that he was attacked by three men.
