November 29,

At the Native Land Settlement Company's first sale of land yesterday about 500 persons were present. Of the Pouawa block, containing 7000 acres of agricul ■ tural land, 500 acres were sold at an average of 42s 6d per acre. The land is situated four miles from Gisborne. The Whatauapoko block, opposite Gisborne, containing 1000 acres, was submitted in sections of from 5 to 40 acres. About 300 acres were sold at an average of £15 per acre. The balance of the land, there being no bidders, was withdrawn.
