RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.

The weather this morning was unfavorable for shooting, light showers passing over the range, and a very cold southerly wind blowing. After lunch the Otago and Wellington matches, which count for the rifle and carbine belts, respectively, were started, but aboat 4 o'clock they were postponed in consequence of heavy rain, and will not be resumed until Tuesday morning, it having been decided not to interfere with the programme for Monday, which comprises the last three ranges of the Wellington match and the firing of the Oamaru and Union mathes. The stopping of shooting met with but little satisfaction from competitors, who would have preferred to go on. O. F. France of the Wellington Naval Brigade, being the highest scorer in the first thiee matches, , takes the medal presented to the association by Mr F. Hyndman, Dunedin. Corporal Brooks, of Dunedin, was second with 142, being one point behind France. November 6.

The following are the highest scorers in the Auckland and Canterbury matches, and who fire ten rounds at 500 yards for the trophy presented by the Union Steamship Company : — Harding, 93 ; Soutag, 90; Brooks and Paynter, 89; W. Ferguson, F. France, Gell, Haslett, Home, Sergeant Johnston, A. Morseman, Watt, Corporal Webster, and Waugh, 87; J. C. Anderson, Lieut. Crossman, Foster, W. Harris, King, Kennedy, Captain Mc'Largy, and W. McKenzie, 86 ; Christie, Church. T. Hutchison, W. Hutchison, McLatchie, Scatter, Allan, and Sangster, 85 ; Churton, Clark, Oumberbeach, Grant, Hale, Hosking, Rummer, McGonagle, G. Patterson, Sergeant Ross, Soper, J. Smith, C. Stevenson, each 84. Aβ only forty will compete those who have scored 84 •will have to fire thot for shot at 200 yards to fill the nine vacancies. It is expected that this match will be fired on Wednesday

Those who fired through the rain on Saturday have protested against the action of Major Baillie in stopping the firing, which they contend is contrary to the regulations. This will be considered to-night, and the Otago match will not be proceeded with until it has been decided. The Union and Marlborough matches are going on. There is splendid weather, with a light southerly wind. Should the weather continue favorable it is expected that the firing wili be completed by Wednesday night.

A grand review will be held on Thursday, the Invercargill, Timaru, and Oamaru volunteers being present-
