The Board met at 11 a.m. Present: Mr J. T. Tylee, Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Messrs P. Sutton, M.H.R., E. Harding, and Captain Russell. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Under-Secretary for Crown Lands, calling attention to Gazette notice permanently reserving land at Norsewood as an addition to the cemetery there, also of land temporarily reserved for the same purpose at Kumeroa and Woodville. From the same, calling attention to certain clauses in the Land Act, 1877, Amendment Act, 1882, one of which affected lands in Hawke's Bay district. From the Chief Surveyor, stating that, since hia previoas report, a bridle road had been formed on the permanent grades through the centre of the Wairoa block for a distance of twelve miles, and giving an amended valuation of the land in the locality—lt was decided that the necessary steps should be taken for offering certain lands in the district for sale. From the same, forwarding selection map and reporting on certain lands in the Puketitin bush, Pohui, and Patoka survey districts.—lt was moved by Captain Russell, seconded by Mr Sutton, and carried, that the map be lithographed, and the necessary preparations made for offering the land for sale. CLASSIFICATION Or LANDS. With respect to the classification of lands it was resolved, '• That the Chief Surveyor be appointed, under the provisions of the Lands Act 1877 Amendment Act 1882, to classify rural lands in the Hawke's Bay land district, and that, in classifying the land, he should be requested to take into consideration its accessibility. — Mr Harding remarked that in his opinion the land should be classified according to its character, and not according to its position. DEFEBRED PAYMENT LAND. Applications were received from Messrs F. H. Drower, Carson, James, Williams, and others, holders of deferred payment sections, asking to be allowed to pay up the balance of their purchase money, under the new regulations.—Mr Sutton moved, and Mr Harding seconded, " That the Board will accept the balance of purchase money in all cases where the applicant requests it, if the conditions of the occupation have been complied with for three years in terms of clause 6 of the second schedule of the Land Act 1882." — Some discussion of a conversational character took place on the subject, the motion being ultimately carried—The Chief Commissioner entered bis objection to the motion on the ground that in his opinion the necessary improvements should be completed to the end of the fourth year.
