DUNEDIN.
October 4. The Union Company has been advised of the launching of their new steamer Tarawera, which is to sail for New Zealand on November 29. The Otago Daily Times Company has declared an interim dividend of seven per cent. The Refrigerating Company has chartered the s.s. Sorento to load with frozen meat here. The Health Officer's report to the City Council shows that of late there has been an alarming increase in scarlet fever, and during the last month twenty-four caeca are reported. Dr. Maunsell urgently submitted that the Council should not delay in the matter ot erecting a fever hospital, and the Council has resolved to recommend the Government to erect such a building on a portion of the Dunedin Hospital grounds. At the Supreme Court yesterday Moses Prince, for embezzlement of funds of a Druids lodge, was sentenced to two years. Thomas Keating, who knocked a man down in and stole his purse, got twelve months. A deep sea fishing public company is being floated here.
