MELBOURNE.

October 4. A destructive fire occurred last night at Richmond in premises occupied by Nation and Co., builders. The damage is estimated at £3000 which is covered by insurance. The Government has declined to grant Dr. Barker an enquiry into the charges made against him in connection with the late Mrs Stent, as it is considered to be unnecessary. Dr. Barker will therefore

not reuign his position on the Victorian Medical Board, as was required by the Government.
