AUCKLAND.
September 25. Great dissatisfaction is felt here at the statement made by the Sydney footballers that the Cbristchurch men were the best team they had met in New Zealand. During the Auckland match our team had the ball near the Sydney goal line. It is stated that a complete re-organisa-tion of the volunteer force, will take place shortly, which will, no doubt enable Mr Bryce to have a slap at the Thames men. The various naval brigades throughout New Zealand are, it is paid, to be styled the " Royal Naval Artillery Corps," and are to be numbered in. point of seniority. The maximum number of men in each company is to be fixed at 63, and the minimum at 43. All the corps are to be efficiently equipped, and will draw capitation at the rate now in vogue. It is understood to be further intended to place the naval brigades in charge of the torpedo defences, and permanent batteries, and to station them on the right of the line. Two eemi - intoxicated men named Daniel Wiutle and Henry Goodward had a row in the Aurora Hotel on Saturday afternoon, when the former drew a loaded capped and cocked revolver and a sheath knife, and threatened to shoot the other. The bystanders were too alarmed to iuterfere, and the consequencee would have been serious had not Detective Brennan, who was passing and heard the noise, rushed in and succeeded in arresting Wintle, who was charged with the offence at the Police Court to-day, and remanded. Elizabeth Allen, the wife of a respectable draper, was arrested to-day on a charge of stealing a web of cloth from aaother draper named Varnon. The case of bigamy against William Lyttle is proceeding at the Police Court to-day. " Madame Valentine " has been committed for trial on a charge of robbery from Henry Collins in her establishment. Bail (£IOO herself and two sureties of £50 each) was allowed. Owing to the frequency of applications for leave of absence, and excuses for absence from duty, on the part of city school teachers, the City School Committee have passed a resolution recommending the Board to curtail salaries during such absence from duty.
