ALEXANDRIA.
September 22. The expedition under Sir Evelyn Wood, comprising three British regimentp, has started for Damietta to cooperate with the fleet in tbe attack on that place. No confirmation has yet been received of the report that the rebel garrison had yielded. All the officers of the Egyptian army below the rank of colonel who were under arrest here for taking part in the rebellion have been released. September 23. Damietta waa yesterday occupied by the British troops under Sir Evelyn Wood. The bulk of the rebel garrison had previously deserted, and bad made their way to Tantah, where they submitted to the British. The remainder fled before the arrival of the troops, but only after they had looted and plundered the town in every direction. The Governor of the garrison, Abdellad, yielded to Major-General Wood on the entry of the British. A grand parade of British cavalry took place to-day at Cairo. Since this display the attitude of the populace which was previously most insolent towards the troops, has become most abject, the parade having had an overawing effect on the people.
