FROZEN MEAT COMPANY FOR HAWKE'S BAY.

MEETING OF PROMOTERS. A meeting of gentlemen interested in the formation of a frozen meat company for Hawke's Bay was held in the Criterion Hotel this forenoon, and was largely attended by sheepfarmers and others, there being about one hundred persons present in all. Captain Russell was voted to the chair, and, having first read the advertisement convening the meeting, called upon the acting secretary, Mr M. R. Miller, to read the printed circular that had been issued by him. Mr Miller explained that the circular was the outcome of several private meet- . inga that had been held by gentlemen interested in the project now under consideration, but aB all present had a copyofthe circular in theirhandshewould not take up their time by reading it. Mr Miller then went on to speak of the advantages the district would reap from the establishment of an industry such as that intended, and pointed out r that the stock resources of the country quite iustified the action now proposed. He also mentioned the terms under which Messrs Nelson Bros, and Williams were willing to dispose of the Tomoana works, which could be utilised, not only for freezing, but for tinning the company's meat, The terms were £30,000 for the

present works, land, &c, complete, Messrs Nelson and Williams to be allowed to take up shares themseves to to the extent of one-third of the entire capital proposed (£45,000), and Mr W. Nelson to coutinue as manager at a salary of £1200 a year for five years. This offer he (Mr Miller) considered a very liberal one indeed. Mr Shrimpton moved, " That a joint stock company under the Limited Liability Companies Act be formed, to be called the Hawke's Bay Meat Export Company, and that this company's business shall be to purchase sheep and cattle for the purpose of export to English or other markets as frozen or preserved meat, tallow, and other produce connected with this business." Mr F. Sutton, M.H.R., seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Mr Chambers then moved, " That the company now proposed to be formed shall accept the offer of the Tomoana works, land, plant, &c, as conveyed in a letter dated September 2od from Messrs Nelson Bros, and Williams to tbe acting secretary, Mr M. R.. Miller." Mr Miller seconded the motion. Mr Bennett thought it would be rather premature to settle so large a question at the present meeting. It would be better that the provisional directors should deal with tbe matter. He would move as an amendment, " That the question of the acceptance of Messrs Nelson Bros, and Williams' offer be referred to a provisional committee." Mr W. J. Birch concurred with what had fallen from Mr Bennett, and seconded the amendment. He was opposed to to Messrs Nelson and Williams holding a third of the shares to be allotted. The amendment was carried on the voices. Mr Miller proposed, " That the capital of the company shall be £45,000 in 4,500 shares of £10 each. The motion was agreed to. The Chairman invited anj gentlemen who would be willing to take up shares to come forward and sign their names, so that the preliminary steps for forming a registered company might be undertaken without delay. A good number of those present responded to the invitation, and a wellfilled list of intending shareholders was soon obtained. The following gentlemen were ap- | pointed a provisional committee:—Messrs Tiften, Nelson, J. N. Williams, Sydney Johnston, Douglas McLean, Captain Russell, Coleman, Shrimpton, Gaisford, Kinross, Miller, Bennett, Murray, and J. D. Ormond ; the committee to meet in Mr M. Et. Miller's office on Thursday next at 11 a.m.
