LONDON.
June 1
In the House of Commons to-day the consideration of the Irish Laud Bill in committee was resumed. The chief speech of the sitting was made by Sir Stafford Northcote, who condemned the measure, and denounced in strong terms the feebleness of the Irish policy of the Government. No progress was made with any of the clauses of the bill.
The London press, in discussing the present state of aftairs in Ireland, are almost unanimous in recommending the Government to take steps to completely suppress the Land League. Intelligence from Ireland continues to report serious affrays between the police and people at various places over the eviction of tenants. The state of the country is daily becoming more disturbed.
Tenders are invited to-day on behalf of the New South Wales Government for a load of £2,050,000, at the rate of four per cent.
