July 10.- A debate was held in tno House of Commons last night, on Mr. Fawcetfs motion that no part of the expense of the Prince's visit ahonld be charged ■gainst the Indian revenues. Mr. Fawcett urged the preaent w»s a favourable opportunity to make amends to India for the paltry manner whereby tho Indian exchequer wm made to bear the expense* of a visit of the Sultan of Turkey to England. The motion was rejected by 79 votes *gamst 07. The House wtnt into committee, and Messrs. McDonald and Kenealy opposed the vote of £U0 000 for the personal expenses of the Prince. Mr. Bright approved of this item. This vote was carried by 3.tO against lfi ; the vote for the Naval expenditure, £32,000, also was carried. July 22.— Russia has abandoned the continuation of the Conference upon the code of war at St. Petersburg. July 27.— {Several meetings have been held in London expressing sympathy with Mr. Plimsoll, and denouncing the recent withdrawal of the Merchant Shipping Bill. Bombay, July 23.— Colonel Widdicomb, Jud«e of Kurrachee, a Small Cause Court, committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor on Monday rooming. ..... July 23.— It w reported here that the Secretory of State has decided to abolish the import duty on the lower kinds of yarn.— TheMabarajah of Scindia comes to Bombay, to be present at the Prim* of Wales landing and reception there.
