LATEST UNPUBLISHED TELEGRAMS. DISSATISFACTION WITH THE DARWIN GOIDFIELDS. MELBOURNE. October 5, afternoon.
An Adelaide telegram received yesterday night from Palmerston states that dissatisfaction is expressed at the alleged nonexistence of alluvial goldfields. Many are returning without visiting the field. West Coast and other miners are satisfied with the reefing prospects, and are collecting quartz for crushing. Above 60 men are at present in the vicinity of Yam Creek. Statements at Palmerston concerning the diggings are contradictory. All is quiet. Nothing has been heard concerning the intei niption of the Java cable. The South Australian Assembly has agieed to a bonus of £1,000 for the first 100 tons of flax. Latest Adelaide quotations of wheat is 53. Cfl. per bushel.
(•reville furnishes the following to the Star :— Tookey shares in Melbourne are nominal, from £3 (new), to £12 G8. — The result of the inquest on Mr. Sexton, who was killed in a brawl at Carl ton, was that O'Shea was acquitted, the jury returning a verdict of Accidental death. — Alexander and James Goran, tallow-dealers, have been committed for trial for f 1 ami in selling spurious articles sent home, damaging the reputation of the colonial market in England. — The 'Kalahome ' aad ' Hokitika have arrived at Newcastle fiom Auckland.
