Wool. — Since our report of the 7th, the sales have been definitely fixed to commence on the 27th instant. The arrivals to date are 142,353 bales, including New Zealand, 36,047, which added to the large quantity held from last sales, make a total of about 200,000 balea. The Merchants' Committee have proposed, in consequence of the present exceptional state of the foreign woollen trade, that 25 per cent, of the total quantity should be declared "withdrawn" before the commence1 ment of the sales. There seems, however, some probability that the movement may prove unsuccessful. We announce to our constituents with pleasure that we have made arrangements by which all consignments to the company's care of the 1870-71 clips will be charged with 4[per cent, brokerage only, instead of 1 per cent, as heretofore; but, as this reduction is not as yet general, it will be necessary, in order to secure it, the company should be left free to choose its own brokers.

Taxlow.— Since the 6th instant there has been very little fluctuation in the value of this article. At public sales, of 2,054 casks Australian tallow offered, 1,670 casks sold at 43a for fine sheep, 41s 6d to 42s for beef. Speculation is very quiet, -with less disposition to sell than to buy. To-day, very fine Australian mutton, 43s 3d ; good, ditto, 43s ; beef, 41a to 42a. Tallow at yesterday's* sales, 1,139 casks, sold at last Friday's prices to 3d advance ; mutton, good to fine, 42s 6d to 43s 3d ; beef, 41s to 42s 3d.

New Zealand Flax. -We have had a quiet but steady market during the past fortnight, the American orders having all been executed prior to our last issue. The demand has been confined to the home trade, but, notwithstanding liberal arrivals, holders have offered their stocks sparingly, and prices have consequently been well maintained. The most recent sales have been at 121. 5a to 151. for common to good half-dressed, 16?. 5s to 22?. for ordinary to good three-fourths cleaned, 241. to 26?. for fair quality, and 271. 10s to Zll. 10s per ton for good and superior.
