CRICKET: THE LAW v. 'GALATEA.'

On Saturday a cricket match was played between an eleven of H.M. s. * Galatea' and | an equal number of the legal profession of this city. Wickets were pitched in the enclosed cricket ground at the Domain, and during the game a large company of ladies and gentlemen assembled to watch the game. The • Galatea' cricketers went in first, Mr. Romilly being tbeir captain. They made a score of 43 runs. The other side (under their captain, Mr. Kees) continued at the wickets till the high figure of 130 was reached. In the second innings the officers had worse luck than in their first, the total claimed being only 36. It was consequently unnecessary for the lawyers to continue the game, as the score made in their one innings exceeded by 51 the total made by the opposite party's double innings. After complimentary cheering on the part of both victors and vanquished, the gentlemen ; retired from the scene of action; not, how- j ever, before making overtures for a return match, to take place on the first favourable opportunity.
