THE PROPOSED GRAVING DOCK. DEPUTATION TO THE SUPERINTENDENT.

Yestebday a deputation waited upon his Honor the Superintendent relative to the proposed Auckland Graving Dock. The deputation consisted of Captain Daldy, and Messrs. G. Yon Der Heyde, H. M. Jervis, and J. Mason, who were appointed a committee to draw up a report, .to be ■ presented at a future meeting, on the subject of the proposed dock. The deputation explained the circumstances of the case to his Honor, and the steps that had been taken towards the desired object, and much stress was laid upon the importance of such a work at the present time. The deputation desired to be informed what amount of aid the Provincial Government was disposed to affoid, and as to the position of the Harbour Endowments. His Hokok, in reply, said, he fully recognised the importance of the work, and was ' disposed to afford every aid in his power. He would instruct the Engineer-in-Chief to make a series of trial borings, with th« view of testing the nature of the ground as for foundations between the wharf and Mechanics' Bay, so as to afford data for the selection of a suitable site for the proposed dock. His Honor also informed the deputation that a bill was being prepared respecting the constitution of the Harbour Trust. The deputation promised to embody in their report to the Chamber any suggestions on tkiB head which they might consider of importance, and, having thanked his Honor, withdrew.
