The Ship Maori in a C\ clone.— The following report of a cyclone encountered by the Maori off this port, the latter part of which was felt in a moderate form in harbour, will be read with interest. By 6 the gale had still increased, with a very heavy sea, barometer 30 00, thermometer 67', the day ending at midnight with a heavy gale at E. , accompanied by violent Bqualls and raiD, barometer 2996, thermometer 67. September Ist began with violent east gale, ship heading to N.N.E. ; at 3 a.m. the wind inclined more to the south ; at 7 a.m. a heavy sea struck the ship, starting the main-rail ; at 8 a.m. the wind had §ot B. by S.; barometer, 29 80 ; thermometer 67. quails getting heavier, foresail was furled. The wind having got to S.S.W, in the meantime, preparations were made in the case of anything happening to the main-topsail : it was then blowing a fearful hurricane, but the ship was all the time coming up to the sea, as the wind veered from S.S.W. to S.W., and finally to W. At midnight the gale w»i somewhat abated, and the more serious apprehensions were removed. At 6 p.m. the barometer was 29*08 ; at 11pm., 29-20; and at midnight, 29 30. February 3rd : Gale decreasing at 9 a.m. ; barometer, 29 68. Sail wa9 gradually made, and at 11 a.m. kept her away for Cape Brett, which was passed at 11 a.m. to-day. Throughout the gale the ship sustained but little damage apparently, and her qualities as a ship were the admiration of all, professionals and non-professionals ; and we are all thankful that we had got through this gale without any serious damage or injury to anyone, and soon forgot the discomforts of che gale in the enjoyment and pleasures of the pleasant day. " The brig Moa entered outwards at the Customs yesterday for Tahiti, and is loading stores for that place. The Schooner Industry. — The ichooner Industry, Captain Yates, arrived in port yesterday from Ngunguru and Wangaruru. She left the former place afc 3 p.m. on Tuesday, and arrived here at 4 a.m. yesterday, making a quick run of 13 hous. Cargo : 9 tons towai bark, 200 bushels of maize, 8 casks of pork, 2 pigi, 4 tons luggage, 50 fowls, li tons kauri gum, &c. Passengers : 4. The cutter Lee arrived yesterday, in ballast, from the Thames, having discharged a cargo of timber there from the Whangapoua mills. The p.s. Enterprise No. 2, Captain Scon, arrived early yesterday morning from the Thamef, with passengers, and left again at 9 o'clock, with about 75 passengers and a general cargo. The s.i.
