THE BATTLE OF WATERLOO.
lo the Editor of the Daily Southern Cross. Sib,— l beg leave to call your attention to an advertisement in your issue of the 12th instant in reference to a lepresentation, in the Circus here, of the above battle on the following evening by the " Auckland Eifle Volunteers." I feel it my duty, as one of the said Volunteers, to inform you that it was not to be represented by them as a body, but only by a few, most of whom were of the rising generation, and I consider they have disgraced the several companies to which they belong, as I had the honour of being present when the said battle was represented by them. So I have judged for myself, and not from hearsay. It is my opinion that they had no right to appear there to represent such a battle as that of Waterloo, without having firgfc consulted the other members of their respective companies ; and I am quite sure, had they done so, such a thing would never have been sanctioned. However, as it is, I think it would have been more perfect had it been done by more experienced members than moßt of those present. On the whole, I think it was, the most disgraceful sham battle the " Auckland Rifle Volunteers " were ever engaged in, and I consider they greatly disgraced their respective commanders, Wellington and Napoleon. Hoping you will insert these few lines,— l am, &c, Mtjzzle-Stofpbe.
