NOTICES TO CORRESPONDENTS.
Mb. Thomas Wiixiam Shtjti, of Taranaki, writes to us complaining that a letter on the subject of roads, addressed to the editor of the Taranald "Herald," was refused insertion in that journal, on the ground that the 'Herald had not " space for such meandering productions." Mr. S&ute feels aggrieved that a Utter on roads, in a country where they we so greatly needed, should have been excluded for the reason statedT He says that he bought land in the Mataltawa block, and has waited a long time, but cannot get upVit for want of roads. This block hw long been constituted a " district," but has not yet been brought under the Eating Ordinance. Mr. Shute says, and we agree with him entirely,— ""Whatever may be said as to the proweisof this country, it cannot be realised without good and sufficient roads ; and however 'meandering my letter may have apneired to the editor of the Taranaki • Herald,' lam satisfied that, unless the country be opened up to the people, but little progress in settlement will be made. We have given the substance of Mr. Shutes letter; his personal grievance against our New Plymouth contemporary does not concern colonial readers.
