COMBINATION,

To the Editor of the Daily Southern Cj&os*. Sib, — I mainly agree with "M.H.8." in his very semible letter in your issue of this day, that on some great questions the Auckland members ought to agree amongst themselves before leaving Auckland, so that on those questions they could act as one united body. Bat I by no means agree to an entirely united action in every question brought before the Assembly, for this would be members becoming sjmple automatons, without will or thought of their own. Auckland has already had a specimen of this, and I think will bene. fit by the past and not do the like again. Most important questions, affecting the interests of Auckland, must come before the General Assembly the next session, and our members must not only be at their posts, but be able to fight when there for those great principles which so mainly affect Auckland's interests. There are many questions, however, besides the allimportant one of Separation, upon which members can quite well agree without in any degree stultifying themselves. I feel certain, from a pretty long expe rience in public matters, that fifteen members, with unity of purpose and pettinacity of action, can, after * time, carry almost any measure which is founded On justice and right ; and have therefoie great faith in our eventually obtaining what we require. The

acts of the Government and the Southern movements will, perhaps, do eyeu more than vre can do ourselves towards obtaining Separation. — Yours, &c, J. Cbispe. Claremont House, Auckland, May 11, 1867.
