CHRISTIANS, BEWARE !

To the Bdltor Qjf tb« Daily Southirk Crosi. Sir, — As the father of a family, and as a Christian, I am tbankfal to see that t&ig community is not entirely destitute of those who haye the true injbereafcs of humanity and religion at hearft. I, with many others, rejoice to see, by some letters which within the last few days have appeared in your columns, that the people of thi3 city are not altogether^ indifferent to our awful state. I do not mean in a monetary sense, but in a spiritual one. Notwithstanding our Sunday-schools, our many churches and chapels, the preachings and teachings of our pastors, and the efforts of many devoted Christian?, yet infidelity, unbelief, and strange doctrines, hurtful to the souls of men, are new showing themselves in this unh&ppy city. And many remark with astonishment that our public journals, whose influence is great for good or evil, look on with the utmost indifference. Nay, do they not tacitly encourage the eyij. ? This question may well be asked when we find the leading journal speak without disapprobation]^ "Ecce Homo," — vhen £ t allows the public expression in it? columns of such ideas as those expressed by your unhappy correspondent "%.* who is, perhaps, as much to be pitied as blamed. Sir, it is high time we bestirred ourselves and took up armi against the enemy. Christians, be watchful, be on your guard ! Let us show that we are not unmindful of our duty!— l am, &c, Philos. May 10, 1867. £ Would oar correspondent, in next issue, be good enough %o tell the public whether he has ever read the book he so much condemns ? As a man of truth, and a Christian, of cour.se he wjill answer tpuly. As for our correspondent " 3.," we can bear testimony jbo the fact that he is no more an "infidel" than ''PhilosV himself.— Ed.
