SAINT PATRICK, THE APOSTLE OF IRELAND.

To the Editor of the Daily Soutjurn Cittsi. SlB. — This saint, the apostle of Ireland, w»s born, according to Usher and TUlemont, ia the year 372. Tiilemont places his death about the year 455. The principal ancient life of St. Patrick is that oompiled by Jbcelin, a Cistercian monk, in the 12th century. The chief authentic information we possess concerning the saint is obtained from hit own writings, his " Confession," and a letter he addressed to Corotic, a prince in some park of Wales. From the Confession we learn that he was born in a village called Bonaven Tabernise, supposed to be the town of Kilpatrick, at the mouth of the Clyde in Scotland, between Dumbarton and Glasgow. He calls himself a Briton. His father's name was Calphurnias. His mother was Concha or Conchessa, who, according to some writers, was niece to St. Martin of Tours. According to Nennius (abbot of Bangor, A.D. 620) St. Patrick's original name was Maur ; that of Patricius was given to him by Pope Calestine, when he consecrated him a bishop and sent him as a missionary to Ireland. If you think this information is worth notice, please find space for it in your paper and oblige An Oia> Colonist. [We now close this correspondence. — Ed. D.S.C.]
