NATAL AND MILITARY.

[Prom Smptimber 1 to September 30.] Ths hetd-quartera of the troops in New Zealand have returned from Wellington to Auckland, the authorities in England having disapproved of Wellington as the head-quarters station. Major-Gene-ral Chute and staff arrived in Auckland on the 13th September. The head-quarters of H.M. 50th Regiment, numbering 218 men, arrived on the 13th September from Taranaki, and will be sent on to the Australian colonies in company with the 2nd battalion of H.M. 14th Regiment in the ' Monarch ' in a few days. The 50th marched to Otahuhu camp to await their embarkation. " A detachment of the 50th Regiment, .consisting of Major, Nowlan, Lieutenant Barker, Lieutenant Preston, Dr. Frazer, Ensign Wyndham, Quartermaster Turner, Lieutenant McGregor, and 137 rank and file, arrived in the Manukau by the ' Phoebe ' on September 17, and marched to the Albert Barracks in the afternoon. The right -wing of the 50th will leave Auckland in a , short .time for Sydney ; , the left wing, will 1 remain where it is now stationed — No. 8 Company in Hew Plymouth, and the remaining companies at the Stony River and the other .posts in the Taranaki district. , A company of H.M. 50th Regiment, in command of Captain Creagh, embarked for Brisbane on board of ;the 'Alice Cameron on September 26. The company numbered 92 men, with the following officers.: — Captain Creagh, Lieutenant Rolleston, . and Ensign Hunt. Assistant-Surgeon McShane also accompanied 'the men. Major-General Chute, with Major Baker and Dr. Menzies, visited Wanganui, Patea, and the military posts adjacent, at the beginning of September. • H.M. s. 'Brisk,' Captain Hope, took her departure for Norfolk Island and Sydney on September 26, in order to undergo repairs at the latter place. She steamed round the flag-ship and H.M. s. ' Eclipse,' with manned yards, before leaving, to take a farewell -of the officers and men of those vessels, which are about to leave for England. "We understand the 'Brisk' is not likely to return to these waters. H.M. s. ' Challenger,' with the new commodore of the Australasian squadron, arrived at Auckland on the 28th September.
