WADE. (FROM A CORRESPONDENT.) January 25.

I am happy to state tbat our farming prospects assume a much more favourable aspect this year, and in face of a most severe winter, our crops, in almost every case, yield fair and even abundant returns. I yesterday saw a very fine sample of wheat from the farm of Mr. Lord ;' also some capital oats from Mr. Jack's. Our regular trader, the little ' Victory,' took, with other cargo and passengers, forty bushels of fine oats from Mr. Lambert's farm at Wainui, on yesterday ; and Mr. A Thobura's cioj) of potatoes far exceed all expectation in auantity andquality. We have now several sheep runs in our district. Messrs. Dacre, Lord, Pilkinghorne, Watkinson, and Pennell have nice flocks ; the lastnamed killed a lamb for Christmas weighing 651b. The wool of this locality has taken a very fair price in the market. Our enterprising settler, Mr. H. rJelljer, h»s succeeded in opening the Orewa as a navigable river, and a regular trailer now sails to and from Auckland with timber and stores. I forgot to mention in my former communications the establishment of signal stations through the district, for the arrival and departure of traders in the river. Settlers residing at some distance from the Wade have found them of the greatest advantage and convenience, saving many a weary trip to the river to find if the expected boat had arrived. Now, a flag at the Wade Bridge is repeated to a neighbouring hill, and so on through the entire locality, telling of each boat's arrival, and another of its departure. Next week, I must ask your permission to insert a full description of the preparations on the tapis for a tea soiree on the Ist, and of our cattle fair on the 6th of March, and other local news.
