A BVMABKAMiY fine specimen of gold-beariug quartz was brought up fiotn Coromaudcl last ovoning in the ps. ' Tasraanian Maid,' by Mr. Samuel Cochrane. The specimen was procured from the leader of the Coromandel Gold Mining Company's claim, in the presence of Mr. Cochrane, and brought on to Auckland by him. It may be seen to-day at the offices of the company, where it will lie for inspection by all who desire to see the development of the mineral resources of our province. The miuers are still at work linking the leaders, iv order to arrive at tho reef which i«i believed to exist below, and the sample is a piece of the stone thrown up during this operation. Tho company have nearly completed the erection of a battery, with fivo stampers, which will be in operation iv another month's time, under the management of Mr, Ring. Owing to the favouiable prospects of the leaders in this company's claim, we are informed there is em» plovment now offered for a few experienced diggers. The JCapanga Company's claim is still progressing favourably, and paymg its shareholders a good percentage. The W»ihau Company (late Murphy's Reef) is also promisiug well, and inusfc eventually amply reward the shareholders.
