The schooner 'St. Kilda* arrived here yesterday evening from the Bay of Islands, which place she left on Saturday night. It was thought that possibly she might have seen the mail steamer or the ' Breadalbane from Sydney, but this wa3 not the case. No veasel was vitible during the run. There is considerable uncertainty existing regarding the arrival of the mail steamer direct from Sydney, which, if she left on the 14th, is now overdue. There may have been some hitch, however, at the last moment ; and after all it is quite possible Captain Barryn may again anticipate her Majesty's mail steamer with the regular dispatches from home. When the 'St. Kilda left the Bay of Islands on Saturday, H. M. S. ' Fawn' and ' Miranda' were at anchor in the roads. There was no news of any importance in that district. There are thiee vessels on the berth for Ofcago, which have every prospect of filling up quickly with passengers. No letters have been as yet received from the early departures to the gold fields of the south, and the continuance of the migration thence will very much depend upon the nature of that correspondence by the next mail. In the meantime publio attention has been fixed on Coiomandel ; and we recommend all who have not finally determined to go to Otago to bide their time, because more auriferous regions may be found nearer home. ______________
